Professionals may sometimes find themselves involved in court proceedings. Sometimes government officers may be called upon as factual or expert witnesses in both civil and criminal trials. Some of them may have to take up the role as prosecutors on behalf of their respective units. Professionals in the private sector may represent their companies in litigation when involved in contractual disputes or criminal charges (e.g. industrial summons). As such, a general knowledge of court procedure and rules of evidence is essential for professionals to avoid pitfalls and to discharge their duties properly. Through an interactive learning approach, this course will make use of lecture and demonstration to illustrate the key elements of court procedure and evidence.
